Impact Criteria

The "changemaker mindset" is a crucial paradigm for navigating and leading in our rapidly evolving society. This mindset is built on empathy, where individuals deeply understand and respond to the emotions and perspectives of others, fostering inclusive communities. It emphasizes creative problem-solving to innovate and implement sustainable solutions for complex social issues.

The selection of awardees will be guided by key skills and values for changemakers, as defined by Ashoka and Hispanic Star.

These Proximate leaders are deeply embedded within the communities they aim to serve. They possess an unparalleled understanding of local issues, enabling them to devise and implement solutions from a place of empathy and awareness. They are pivotal in creating sustainable change, not just through their immediate actions but by fostering a culture of changemaking, where communities are encouraged to be active participants in their own transformation. They not only co-create solutions that cater to multiple stakeholders, they also know how to build the conditions for everyone to contribute to the desired change.

They forge unlikely alliances to shift behavior, roles, and rules, enabling communities and societies to equitably distribute resources to elicit change. They empower local communities to take action, use their capacities and resources to be changemakers for and with their communities, and thus create long-term sustainable change.

About the Partners

Ashoka Logo

Ashoka has pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship since 1980, identifying and supporting close to 4000 leading social entrepreneurs in over 90 countries, we refer to them as Ashoka Fellows.

Ashoka is currently building and cultivating a community of Fellows, Young Changemakers, Changemaker Institutions, and beyond who see that the world now requires everyone to be a changemaker – a person that sees themselves as capable of creating large-scale, positive change.

We Are All Human Logo

The Hispanic Star is an initiative of the We Are All Human Foundation. WAAH’s mission is to advocate for every human to be respected and empowered by focusing on our common humanity. They are devoted to diversity & inclusion as a way to achieve equity, they convene the network of progressive leaders and inspire and facilitate collective action.

Together, amidst the exponential growth of a new inequality in changemaking at a worldwide scale, we mobilize (and accelerate) a movement to build an "Everyone a Changemaker" world where all people have the right and ability to co-lead solutions that transform their societies for the better.
